How the calendar is checked

A wrong deadline costs a studio a year. So every date, fee and amount in the calendar comes from the organiser's own page, links to it, and says when we last read it there.

Where the facts come from

Only from the organiser: the festival's site, Valve's Steamworks pages for Steam events, the funder's call for funds. Other people's lists and calendars help us find names to look up, but we never copy a date from them.

Our agents read the official page and write down the facts. Code then checks each one: the date, the fee or the amount has to appear in the text of that page, in a sentence about this year's edition. A date that the page gives for last year, or a sentence that only looks like a date, is thrown out. The first entries and every new website were also checked by a second, independent reviewer before they went up.

How often we look again

At least once a week for every entry, and every day for deadlines in the next 21 days. When the page changes, the entry is checked again, and the entry page lists what moved (“deadline moved from … to …”). An entry we could not confirm for 30 days says so; after 60 days it leaves the “open now” view. When an organiser's page stops answering for three days, the entry says that too.

Deadlines and time zones

We show a deadline the way the organiser wrote it: the date, and the time and time zone when they give one. A deadline without a time counts as closed from the start of that day anywhere on earth (UTC+14), so the calendar never tells you there is still time when there might not be. Statuses (open, closing soon, closed) follow the clock, not the organiser's page, so a deadline that passed shows as closed even if their page still says open.

Corrections and new events

Send us the link to the official page that shows the right date, or a new event with its official page. We check it there and update the entry; nothing goes up on someone's word alone. We only write back if you leave an address and ask us to.

Report a correction or submit an event or fund.

For organisers

If your event is listed, you can show it with a badge. Each entry has one at /badge/listed/<entry>.svg, to be linked to your entry page:

What we don't do

We don't rate or rank events, take payment for a listing, or publish anyone's personal details: organisers are named as organisations, and contact goes through their own pages. A reply address you leave in a form is never published and is deleted within 12 months (Privacy). We are not affiliated with any organiser, with Valve or with Twitch. Always check the official page before you submit.
